Ok events have taken over this week so this will be short and to the point
This week we play another fairly regular gig for us
Sunday 13th March
The Nag’s Head
Ripley
Derbyshire
Start approx. 5:30 pm.
Yes we return to deliver our Good time Feel good Rock at the legendary Nag’s Head Sunday afternoon session. Not a huge venue but always well attended by enthusiastic and knowledgeable rock fans. We have quite a few friends there now and be good to catch up with them all.
As mentioned last week we returned to Stanley’s Cask in Wallasey last Saturday after an absence of over four years. Triumphant? Well I probably wouldn’t say that but it was a good and enjoyable gig for us and certainly we only heard good things from the sizeable audience.
It is looking like we will be returning within a shorter time frame, hopefully this year. Thanks to all who came along and supported us, especially good to see old friends Brain and Linda who I used to know from my time in the Switch circa 1990.None of us have changed a bit ha-ha
The other big news for us this week is that we have been selected to play at a new festival in Birkenhead on July 9th. Called Fakefest, this is a touring festival which puts on three tribute bands in the evening and during the day five “local” bands. Held in a 2000 capacity Marquee it is the first time it has come to Birkenhead Park so should be good. The Tributes at this one are to Queen, Oasis and Kings of Leon although we have an evening gig in the Witton Chimes on that date so we won’t be there to see them.
We are third on the bill after Table 73 and The Havocs (not heard of either of them) then following us are Problem Child and Dr Strangelove both of whom we know and are good bands. So hopefully it will be a good afternoon, we play at 2:40pm. More Info at https://www.fakefestivals.co.uk/2016/Birkenhead.html
After this week’s gig we are taking a short break until April 9th when we play a three band line up at the Snooty Fox in Wakefield with The Darker my Horizon and Jupiter Falls. Both class bands so it will be a great night, more about that next time.
Unfortunately we had to postpone our recording session this week due to unforeseen circumstances however it will be rescheduled soon.
Apologies, no rants this week – well apart from the complete incompetence of DPD to deliver a parcel. Never had a problem with them before, but generally that is probably because I am in when they deliver. If you try to rearrange anything though good luck because you will never actually speak to a real person. After wasting considerable time, effort and no doubt phone charges I did finally manage it but it made no difference. Despite their promises to the contrary a parcel I was expecting last Thursday (3rd) has still not appeared. I am told that it may have actually arrived a at a collection point today (Halfords). We shall see.
Music news – Sad to see that two well-known music venues in the Bolton area are struggling and probably going to have to close. The Railway in Bromley X and the Moses Gate in Farnsworth. We have played both of them although not for some time. Both proper live music venues with in house PAs and lighting they are well known on the music circuit. Jon and Hilary from The Railway have always supported live music and had a wide range of bands etc. on ranging from unknown bands from abroad to tributes to some high profile names. Ray at the Moses Gate tended to mainly push Tribute bands but often with local or original band in support. Got to say a big thanks to them all for keeping the cause as long as possible.
AC/DC singer Brian Johnson to stop touring. It appears he has a hearing problem and could go totally deaf if he doesn’t stop. The band will play some gigs with guest vocalists? Is it time for them to stop given Malcolm Young is no longer there either? Difficult to say. I am sure if Angus still gets a kick out of playing he will want to carry on.
Rush’s drummer Neil Peart is apparently hanging up his live touring sticks as well. Says he can’t do it anymore with arthritis/ rheumatism. Ginger Baker has cancelled all his gigs due to heart issues. Aging catches up with everyone I guess and really doesn’t sound great.
Update on the Inglorious album – Not really had the inclination to listen to this one again. I suspect it will be filed along with other hyped albums I bought such as The Answer, Tracer, Blackstone Cherry and more. None of them bad just nothing to my ears that makes them special.
I am sure people say that about The Clan as well of course.
A band from my younger days were a local band called Spider. They had a modicum of success for about ten years, toured with Slade and others, played Reading festival, when it was a rock festival, they were more Quo than Quo at times. They are doing a “one off” reunion gig in October at Santa Pod. Could be a good one. Obviously I am trying to get The Clan onto the bill as a support but so far with no success. If anyone gets the inclination feel free to suggest this an option on Facebook etc. well, you’ve got to try these things. If I gave up every time I received a rejection then I would have given up a long time ago.
Until next week
Keep Rockin’
