Well here we are again. I’m on a bit of a roll at the moment
As you know there are no gigs this week but as you also know this is part of a deliberate policy to ensure that when we do play it is enjoyable for us and we are playing to people who actually want to see a live band. Since we adopted this approach it’s all been good.
I mentioned recently that I was hopeful of us having a track on the Cover CD for Total Biker FM (TBFM) magazine.
Well it has been confirmed we are to have a track on it and it is to be given away with the December issue, out Dec 2nd. The magazine is distributed free at Venues and various music outlets around the country or alternatively can be ordered for postal delivery. Further details – at TBFM
We are quite pleased about that, who knows where it may lead.
I am still enjoying the weather as well; it has not really been bad for quite some time, having said that I am sure we will now have nothing but torrential rain for the rest of the week.
I was watching the Apprentice on TV the other day, yes I know, but the interesting part was that they had to set up a YouTube Channel. Made me think that maybe I should start one of my own, my videos have done ok for viewings so maybe a monthly video would be a good idea. Do I have the time I wonder? Hmm, worth thinking about. Down side is I don’t have a video camera of course.
It was Remembrance Day of course over the weekend, Good to see so many people still honour the day and the fact that so many people lost their lives in doing what they were asked. I like most people live in the hope that one day there will be no wars and everyone can live in harmony but sadly there always seem to be people who are determined to inflict their views and opinions on others and if these people are put into positions of power conflict is usually the result.
This reminds me that on Sunday I watched the original version of “The Day the Earth stood still “. Was it shown by coincidence or was to tie in with Remembrance Day, I am not sure but it carries a powerful message and despite being from 1951 (I think) for me it is much better than the more recent remake which seemed to lose the point somewhere along the way.
Gripes
Fireworks – yes I like fireworks a lot but the window of use does seem to go on for far too long these days. They seem to begin before Halloween and they were still going off this week. I’m not a killjoy but cats, dogs and probably most animals really don’t like them so restricting their use would be a good idea in my book.
Many years ago I used to cycle to school. It was three miles or so and involved a long steep hill. By the time you got there on a hot day you were somewhat sweaty and tired, wet on a rainy day. However, you simply went to lessons in what you were wearing (your school uniform) without any fuss. No Showers, no hi-viz vests, no helmets and certainly no special cycling shoes, or lycra outfits etc. How did we survive? Did we all survive?
I am so fed up of receiveing notifications from Twitter and Linkedin in My email. Generally telling me that I may be interested in this or that or invitations from People I don’t know. These programs don’t make it easy to turn these features off but I think having changed about 30 settings I may have managed it.
Music
This week I ordered Dee Snider’s biography “shut up and give me the mic” which I expect to arrive by Friday. I have always liked Dee’s voice especially on the Desperado album he did with Bernie Tormé. I figured I had better listen to some Twisted Sister as no doubt it will be referenced in his book. They are ok but the best thing about them was definitely Dee. Some of the tracks are very reminiscent of my writing actually, not sure if that is good or bad J. Still I am looking forward to the book as despite his over the top stage persona Dee is actually no fool. I will let you know.
A lot of noise about the “new” Pink Floyd album this week as it was released on Monday. Seem to be quite mixed reviews actually with the people who like it saying it took about four listens and others hating it. Not heard it myself as whilst I like the Floyd I am also cautious and don’t believe everything they have done is pure gold. Actually one of my favourite albums of theirs is “Obscured by Clouds” but you rarely hear it mentioned. In fact I suspect that probably quite a few people who claim to love Floyd aren’t even aware of it. No matter, I presume I will hear some of this “new” album at some point.
New music well- Joe Lynn Turner’s new band and eponymous album Rated -X.
I have literally just downloaded this so I can’t really pass judgement yet. It’s described as being like early Whitesnake and Rainbow hence me acquiring it. I have always like Joe’s voice so that is a good start. The song previews sounded pretty good before I click “buy”.
Uuntil Next time
