Well here we are again.
Not too much to tell you but I am sure I will think of a few things.
For those looking for gigs we are not playing again until Sat Nov 1st when we make our debut at the Fox & Goose in Southport. This is a long established venue although it has changed hands quite a few times recently. Remarkably we have never played there as the various owners/managers have always proved to be very elusive. The one time we were booked there, as Iron Horse Pre Clan, we were cancelled at short notice due to a comedy festival. So although we have been in contact with the new owners I will be satisfied once we actually get onto the stage.
Until then? Well I am waiting to hear if we are going to be included in the Cover CD for the Dec TBFM magazine. I had to send some artwork which is not really my strong point so it might be a
deciding factor. Ah well, we either will be included or we won’t. Not exactly a world changing event.
This was odd – Our 2010 promo video for the Few was apparently spotted on screen in Turkey last week?
This was actually a video made to accompany the version of the song from my solo album Pies, Pasties and Rock ‘n’ Roll so both the recording and the video feature Clive on drums, pre Jim. If anyone wants to see it again click here. I’m sure a few more viewings won’t do us any harm.
Last Sunday I was out in West Kirby and I bumped into a friend of mine who has made a couple of Daleks. I had seen them on Facebook but anyway I got to see them in the “Flesh” he has two and also his son had made two so basically I walked into a room to be confronted by four full size Daleks. Even at my age and knowing they weren’t real this was still a weird feeling and slightly intimidating. Brilliantly made I have to say. How some people have the patience to make such detailed things I don’t know?
I also spent some time working on my guitars, rebuilding a couple and swapping some bits around. I was surprised to find out how many I have, all different of course and let’s face it you can never have too many guitars can you?
This week I am off to see good old Bernie Tormé at the start of his UK tour. It’s the first gig of the tour in Leamington Spa. I have seen Bernie many times since 1982 and The Clan supported him (GMT) at Yardbirds in Grimsby not too long ago. As I have mentioned previously he has a new solo album out so I assume we will get some tracks from that plus a selection of his considerable back catalogue. Looking forward to it, Bernie just cranks up his guitar and delivers long guitar solos, exactly what the Doctor ordered. Couple of support acts on so may catch them as well. We have to support live original music.
Later this week I have a dental appointment, only a check-up, not anticipating any problems but you can never tell. No doubt the day will be filled with other such necessary jobs/chores.
I noticed in a few cities the Christmas lights are being put up in the high streets this week. No doubt they will be having switch on ceremonies shortly. I suppose it is only 10 weeks away.
No rants this week – chilled out
Music
I can’t remember if I did or not but possibly in my last update I indicated that I had received the new Axel Rudi Pell album. Whatever I called it then it is actually called “Into the storm”. Very good it is too although it is obviously similar to all his others. If you like the genre, check it out.
I found myself unable to sleep the other night so figured maybe some Progressive (Prog) rock might assist. Bizarrely I stayed awake for the whole of the Snow Goose by Camel and then had the urge to listen to Brain Salad Surgery (ELP), Fragile (Yes) and Trespass (Genesis). Fortunately I don’t currently own any of those so I was saved from a death by keyboard.
Actually I am not knocking Camel at all, they were the performers at the first real gig I ever went to and it was the Snow Goose tour, I was impressed. It was always better live and Andy Latimer is a very tasteful guitarist.
Whilst on the subject of Prog Rock – I understand there is a “new” Pink Floyd album due out shortly. No doubt it will sell millions but having heard the single (only once so far to be fair) I doubt I will be a purchaser. Still, it will give the Floyd tribute bands something new to learn.
So on that note I am signing off.
Remember Keep rockin’
Craig.
