Another update, not sure about what but I am sure I will manage something.
Well it was a shame we were not able to play the Duke of York in Eccles a couple of weeks ago, I did hear on the grapevine that a band did play on the Saturday but that was for the Landlady’s “leaving “do”. Still every cloud has a silver lining, we have been booked to play at Wangies which is also in Eccles.
Next up for us is Southport – Fox & Goose on the 31st, this Saturday. A rather good venue actually, we had a good night last time we were there.
Saturday 31st January
The Fox and Goose
Cable Street
Southport
I am not sure why but we have had an influx of members to the Clan on our website who will all receive this and other updates of course. Welcome everyone.
Thanks To Wirral music supporter Diane Tremarco as well, she featured us on her www.getoutmore.me website and also in the Wirral news. Diane used to run the Wirral Buzz Magazine for many years until it closed so she is familiar with pretty much anyone who plays around the Wirral.
Well I presume the nights are drawing out a bit now given we are almost at the end of January but I can’t say as I have noticed. Snow and ice seem to be on the cards as well not that I am complaining after all it is winter so it is to be expected. None of this encourages people to leave their houses and go to gigs of course although I think I can understand that.
After being totally engrossed in Breaking Bad last year I was looking for something to replace it in my viewing schedule. A difficult act to follow of course but I have found Lillyhammer which I am enjoying. It stars Guitarist Steve Van Zandt, best known for playing in Bruce Springsteen’s band, as a mafia fixer who is on witness protection in Norway. An unlikely setting but it is quite humorous and enjoyable. Even the fact that a lot of it is subtitled doesn’t detract. Apparently he played a similar part in the Sopranos but I never saw that.
I have been discussing our next information video with Dave (who films and produces them) and we think we have a subject. Watch this space. We will probably film the band playing live in the studio at the same time.
Bit short of time this week so no Rants, apologies as I know some of you like these.
Musically
Well the First Widowmaker CD finally turned up and it is better than the second one. Mainly as some of the songs are recordings of songs on the Desperado CD plus some songs written for Desperado (By Dee and Bernie) but never recorded. I’ll stick to the Desperado album though.
Another album I heard again after a long time is Gun’s Taking on the world (1988). Still sounds good. They are probably best known for a rocking version of cameo’s Word up although that is not on the album. Coincidentally I did hear they are playing somewhere shortly.
Now I like the band Thunder or their first album Backstreet Symphony anyway. I saw them on the tour for it and they were good. Certainly better than their much lauded offshoot “The Union” who we supported in Buckley.
What does annoy me however is the amount of times they have “split up” and reformed. It is getting silly. Why can’t they just admit they still exist but don’t play much other than presumably lucrative festivals? It is very confusing for the fans.
Danny the singer was supposed to have given it all up to be an agent but that didn’t last long, they are now recording a new album?
So what is my favourite listen of the week?
Good old Foghat live. Only 6 tracks but they are all classic driving boogie. Loved this album the first time I heard it a long time ago and never get bored of it. I have other live Foghat albums but this is the best for me.
Until next time
Keep rockin’
